2020 Booragul Sale Report

What a year of uncertainties leading into this year’s sale!! Having survived two and a half very ordinary years of drought, then receiving some much welcome rain things were looking good. Then Covid-19 hit along with the rocky relationships with our major overseas trading partners the unknown was once again an ever-present factor. We had already made the decision to move our sale to early July to allow producers as long as possible to commence restocking. With Covid restrictions we also decided to introduce AuctionsPlus live stream as a possible purchasing option.

Following our highly successful Open Day it became obvious that the demand and interest in our genetics was strong. Sale Day started with perfect weather conditions and it was wonderful to see so many buyers and interested parties come to join us.

Lot 4: Top price $22,000 selling to Ascot Angus.

This year’s top price was Lot 4 Booragul Leading Edge P81 selling to Ascot Angus, Warwick QLD for $22,000. It was very pleasing to see P81 going into such a high-quality herd. We have retained semen from this bull for our own in herd use and look forward to seeing his progeny in years to come. Thanks to Mike Wilson for inspecting the bull on behalf of Jim and Jackie Wedge. It was great to see the return of Sunnydowns Holdings, Delungra, to purchase the second top price bull Lot 2 Booragul King P30, $16,000. Sunnydowns went onto be a volume buyer purchasing 4 bulls in total. Great long-time clients Dempsey Pastoral of Nundle selected 4 bulls for heifer joinings as they rebuild from recent dry times. Other purchasers were Muranjai Pastoral, Ranken Brothers and Steve & Sophie Carter all who purchased 3 bulls each.

Every year we are extremely grateful to our long-term clients who consistently support and follow our program. With the introduction of new genetics, it allows them to return each year knowing they are continually improving their herd genetics.

AuctionsPlus was highly successful for our first-time use receiving over 68 registered bidders, 34 online bids with 3 successful purchases.  Thanks to Struan Pearce for handling all our online bidding.

Overall the air of confidence and positivity was strong with a total clearance of 63/63 lots averaging just on $8000. Looking forward we hope for plenty of rain and a return to normal conditions. Many thanks to Elders Livestock Tamworth/Gunnedah, our supportive local agents and Paul Dooley for his highly professional auctioneering. Our catering team from Camp Quality, as always, did an amazing job and the generosity of our clients raised an incredible $1204.
